Easy TV Stand Makeover

We purchased this TV stand at the Salvation Army near us for $24.99. This stand is mostly veneer with solid wood doors and trim. It was previously stained in a medium oak and in great condition. It only needed minor repairs and a good cleaning.

After a thorough cleaning with a general all purpose cleaner, I wiped the shelves and the inside with Murphy’s Oil Soap cleaning spray. The hinges on one of the doors needed to be tightened. One of the glass panels on the door was missing so we decided to remove the glass from the doors completely.

Jay carefully removed the wood cross panels on the doors with a Dremel tool. We picked out a decorative metal panel at Lowes for only $16 to replace the glass door fronts. Jay cut the metal panels to size with aviation snips. We tried to staple the metal panels but it didn’t work so we hot glued the metal panels to the inside of the doors.

We decided to fill the vertical grooves on the front with wood filler. After the wood filler dried we lightly sanded the excess wood filler off and then we used Beyond Paint All-In-One in the color sage to paint the frame and the doors. We chose this paint because it’s an all in one paint so no sanding or topcoat was needed. The color was on sale for $29 at Lowes.

We replaced the original door knobs with some decorative aged bronze door knobs we found at Lowes for under $2 each. We spent about $75 total for the TV stand, paint, knobs and one metal panel.

This was a super easy makeover that can be done in pretty much any space. Most of our time spent was watching paint dry.
